Damn, where do I start. Not only is
there a bucket load of consoles but
several emulators for each one. I'm
thinking that alphabetically might the
way to go. You will probably notice
that I have snagged a lot of info from
the Classic
Gaming site but note only a
very small portion. I highly
recommend that you look at the
Museum section there.

Colecovision
The colecovision was the
premier home console of
the early eighties.
Released in 1982, this
machine out-powered both
the Atari 2600 and the
Mattel Intellivision. The
Arcade ports were very
close to the originals and
accessories included items
such as steering wheels.
You could even play
Atari2600 games through an
adaptor.

Fairchild - Channel F

What is particularly
significant about this
machine is that it
is what all modern
consoles were originally
based on. This machine was
the first console to use
cartridge based software.
The system included tennis

games but overall the
games themselves are very
poor. This system lives on
in all cartridge-based
consoles.

Neo Geo Console
The most powerful home
console ever released, the
NeoGeo is really a home
version of the well known
arcade cabinets. Most
recognised for a long
string of fighters, all
games are the exact copy
of the arcade releases and
are very nice. Due to the
power of the system, it
was very costly and
therefore could not
compete with lesser
consoles and eventually
was discontinued.

Nintendo's answer to the

machine was released too
far after the Playstation

expensive to produce with

Sega Genesis/Megadrive
After two years of
development, Sega
introduced their "next
generation" system to the
world in late 1989. Known
as the Genesis in the
West, and the Mega Drive
in the east. Sega took
advantage of Nintendo's
delay to market and
managed to capture a far
larger % of the market
than ever before. It would
be 18 months before the
Snes was released and even
though the Genesis was
superior they eventually
overtook sales.

Sega Dreamcast
Sega's ill fated last
console to be made. This
console had the most
promising future since the
release of the PSX. Having
a large fanbase with
excellent support and
features, Sega decided in
the end not to bother and
abandoned yet another
console.

Dreamcast emulation has a
long way to go due to the
sheer power of the system
and number of chips. Very
early release.

Sega Saturn
Released virtually at the
same time as Sony's
Playstation console this
was technically superior.
It seemed that Sega
marketing could not
compete AGAIN and lost out
to the sony market. Sega's
biggest problem was game
programmer support.

Like dreamcast emulation,
the Saturn in very complex
to emulate. It will be
some time before we see
anything remotely useable.

Sony Playstation
This system rocketed Sony
into the world of console
gaming and took the gaming
world by storm. A lot of
units moved and still on
sale today albeit in a
smaller model.

Vectrex
This system is a
collectors dream. The only
vector-based console made
it was all black&white
and used screen overlays
for extra scenes and
colours. Not a lot of
games released for this
system but really nice to
look at. Note that Mess
also supports this system.

Nice self-installing Dos
based emu. This is the
only dedicated Vectrex emu
and supports overlays and
the lightpen. Note that
Mess will emulate the
Vectrex as well. This
archive also includes the
system rom.
